    Country Engagement

The sustainable eradication of slavery requires interventions that do not simply transfer the crime elsewhere.

While the Fund’s goal is to eliminate modern slavery, it will have to work to do so in a manner that seeks to turn former slave labor into a market of fairly treated workers who meet the production, business and migratory needs of a country’s economy. This ensures progress is sustainable, and at the same time creates wages and working conditions that maintain the wellbeing of workers and families. The former slave laborer cannot simply be abandoned; they must be given the opportunity to participate in the economy in a fair way. The Fund aims to address the challenge by seeking to anticipate the economic, political and social dislocation associated with successful eradication and working to ensure the local economy has the capacity to absorb those coming out of slavery.
